La Danesa in Barcelona. A Danish Bakery!

Oh the joy of something familiar! When a friend asked me if I had been to the Danish Bakery my eyes almost popped. Whaaat? A Danish bakery here in Barcelona? Yes, indeed.

La Danesa means the Danish woman. I asked, and it turns out the manager is Danish. (A man however.) They sell various Danish pastries, bread etc.

I love Danish bakeries!
If I have to think of my absolute favourite smell, it would be "the smell when you enter a Danish bakery". And it's not just the smell, the products in a Danish Bakery are normally incredible.
They really do know how to bake up there.

So I had to check it out didn't I? And although the bakery lacked the smell, it didn't lack anything in quality of the products. I had to get two pastries, simply couldn't make up my mind! These two particular ones are very typical in Norway too. "Wienerbrød" ("Dulce de crema") which I have no idea what translates to in English...but it's rally good, and "Kanelsnejl" - cinnamon bun ("Dulce de canela"). Mmm!

It's supernice to find something I used to love back home!

If this sparks the interest in someone else, La Danesa can be found on
C/Roselló, at the corner of Diagonal and Roger de Lluria.
And if you go, please tell me what you thought!

    1. I have never eaten Argentinian dulces! Any recommendation in particular? I LOVE icecream with dulce de leche though, it's often the best one!

  4. Oooo...you are getting me excited for a visit to Norway :) Any other good foods you suggest I eat there?

And isn't in funny how we crave the familiar when in a different country for a long time? It makes sense, of course, but I feel like we even crave things we didn't care for THAT MUCH when in our countires...simply because they are familiar.

    1. Hmm, I'll have to think about that. I'll gladly make you a must-eat-list for when you go there :)
I think maybe being in a place so different for a long time makes it simply wonderful to find something familiar. Getting used to everything being strange, unfamiliar, difficult and where you need to make an effort to a mugh higher degree than when at home, probably gives the familiar some extra glitter? :) These cakes were wonderful!! :P

  5. Hej 'New Life in Spain.'
