Fiestas de Gracia 2012

Hi all! I am back from wonderful vacations exploring a part of Spain I had not yet been to, the north.  (Ok, so Catalunya and Barcelona are part of Northern Spain, but I mean further north and the part on the Atlantic coast, not Mediterranean.) I have several hundred photos to go through and lots to write about, but for now I have to tell you about Fiestas de Gracia, which started yesterday here in Barcelona.

Ever since I arrived Barcelona, people kept talking about these Fiestas de Gracia, that it was an absolutely awesome event, that streets were decorated in the most creative ways and that the ambiente was fantastic. I planned my trips to Norway the north of Spain to be sure to be in Barcelona during these fiestas and I got back last nigh. Today I have been running around Gracia admiring it all and taking pictures of all the awesomeness and I really understand why everyone kept telling me I had to make sure I’d be here to experience it.

Most different parts of the city has their own fiestas, neighbourhood street festivals, but the Festa Major de Gracia must be the best one. 18 selected streets are decorated beautifully, and they all serve drinks (and some serve food too). A common denominator for the decorations is recycling, how great to make such wonderful things out of rubbish, such as water bottles, soda cans and milk cartons!

There is a great program for the fiestas with more than 500 activities, for instance free outdoor concerts in the different decorated streets and plazas.
Since there are so many streets that are absolutely fantastic, I will post about a new street every day until I have presented them all, it would be impossible to just choose a few!

Where and when?
This year you can experience the Fiestas de Gracia from Wednesday August 15th to Sunday 21st, all over the Gracia area of Barcelona. Metro: Green line 3, stop: Fontana, or Yellow line 4, stop: Joanic

    1. I agree Wild West is incredible!! And I absolutely love the Pasarela too, so impressing what they've made there. And the Circus too. It's hard to rate them, as I love them all! There's one more too that I loved, but I am not sure of the name, the one with the huge grammophone and the dancing legs, thought it was really neat too :)
