The Green Parrots in Barcelona

There are a lot of parrots in Barcelona! Urban legend tells that some of them escaped from Barcelona Zoo about 20 years ago, and that they have simply enjoyed their freedom here in Barcelona and reproduced a lot. Now they are all over the city and to me this is so exotic! In Norway, the only way to see a parrot is in a cage…

They make a lot of noise (A LOT!) and I have learned to distinguish them from other birds (quite easy by the way!) So now every time I hear them I look up and see them on rooftops, in palm-trees or eating seeds from trees and bushes.

Simply lovely and seing them makes me smile every time!

    1. De kan tåle ned til 20 graders frost, så de kan næsten indføres i Oslo.

  3. Aw I love the urban legend!! I grew up with parakeets and they escaped when we had the cage outside. I'd like to think that maybe there is a parakeet colony out there, somewhere, because of it :)

    Thanks for sharing :-)

    1. That is a nice thought! It must have been so sad when they escaped!

  4. How interesting - I don't think I've seen a green parrot before. I smiled reading the post, but noisy birds get to me - I find them scary - like they're going to pick a fight with me or something!

PS I loved your comment about the books - and your dad owned a bookstore? That is sooo wonderful. I would have loved that!

    1. :) These make a lot of noise, and normally I would get annoyed by constant loud bird noises outside my window, but these are just so beautiful it doesn't matter!

  6. I remember when I went to Barcelona to study spanish in bcnlanguages school, that this parrots were always singing in the trees! There are a lot! I think they are nice but if you listen at them at least 1 hour you can truly hate them!

    regards
