My last week of language course is coming to an end. Tomorrow is the last day, and although the teacher looked at me strangely when I asked- I am sure I will have an exam tomorrow to see my improvement. I have not decided what to do next, but for now I am not going to continue, at least not at this school. I am not saying that I am now fluent in Spanish and don’t need more language course. Far from it! Learning a new language from scratch takes time, and two months, however intensive is like touching the surface of the iceberg. If I could, I would probably do 6 more months of intensive language studies, and then maybe I’d be well prepared for the Spanish speaking world!!
I mentioned in this post that I wasn’t too happy with this language school in Barcelona. In Málaga the teaching was fantastic, the quality & learning curve was high, and I think I learned more there per week than I have done here these last four weeks in total.
The class changes every week, new people are added and some people leave. New teachers are brought in every week as well. There is no constancy to the teaching as the new teachers don’t quite know where the last one left it, and as the level of the students is quite spread as well.
Barcelona is an expensive city, everything is much more expensive here than in Málaga, this course included. So I have paid more for a lot less, and that takes away my motivation to continue.
Maybe with the base I have now I will be able to keep learning on my own and in interaction with others. I don’t know, but it doesn’t stress me. I am enjoying my time here and getting more hours to the day to explore and enjoy this beautiful city sounds pretty good to me for now!
Too many years of my life I have worried about the future and wanted to know what will happen next. It’s really nice just letting things happen and not analyze and try control the chain of events!
The only thing I am sure of right now, is that I am definitely staying on in Barcelona. I have fallen in love with this city and I am far from being done with it yet!
