Giant me & Spanish beds!

I am a tall girl. And although that's not something new, it’s simply something I haven’t given much thought before. Yes I am used to being one of the tallest of my friends but it’s just always been like that…and I've never felt especially tall, you know? Here in Spain however, I feel like a giant at times. Spanish woman are so petite!

For curiosity I had a look to see if Google could tell me what average heights are and I found that in Norway, for women it is 1.67m, and in Spain it is 1.61m (although I am sure it’s less!) Men in Norway are an average of 1.799 m. and in Spain 1.70m.

I am 1.75m.

But this post wasn’t supposed to be just about heights. As the title reveals, I wanted to talk about beds... In Norway, the standard bed-length is 2 meters. No more, no less. With a good 2 meters of bed you are more or less covered either you’re short or tall. So up until September this year, I have never in my life given bed-length any special thought, and my bed has always been comfortably long enough.
Here, however the standard bed size is 1.80m and that makes me end up with my toes outside! I have tried four different beds (Málaga, Hotel Barcelona, Room with nice couple while waiting to find my own place in Barcelona, and my new home) and it’s all been the same. I will have to get myself some nice cosy socks now that autumn is setting in!

  1. Oh no, how frustrating! My sister is 183cm and she struggles so much with finding a bed long enough too.

  2. I've never given a lot of thought to these things because I'm petite, but since being with my husband, who is tall, I've started to appreciate the hardships that you tall people face!

  3. Actually I never gave it much thought before!
If I decide to stay long and the bed-thing bothers me, I know there is an IKEA-shop here, and they sell long beds! :) (Ikea is Swedish and in Sweden they also have tall people&long beds ;)
