Garmin Triathlon Barcelona 2011

I haven’t really learned how to find out what’s on where and when here but today walking around, I came across this triathlon. Well, at first I didn't know what it was, but I saw loads of people biking like mad, and then later on, at a different place, more people running. I was just impressed to see that much people in action. Took a few pictures, and when I got back home I had a look to the big web and found out that this was in fact the Garmin Triathlon of 2011.

Apparently it’s quite the event too, being the sixth biggest Triathlon in the world and third biggest in Europe when it comes to number of participants, after London, Hamburg, New York, Chicago and San Francisco. This year there were 6000 participants.

For ignorant people like myself, I’ll just quick explain what a Triathlon is, cause I actually had no idea…
So first, the participants have to swim in the sea, then ride their bike, then run. In this edition there were three categories (maybe always in triathlons, what do I know!) : Olympic distance (Swim 1500m, Bike 40km, Run 10km), Sprint distance (Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km), and Super sprint distance (Swim 400m, Bike 10km, Run 2,5km) And also the possibility to do it as a team in a relay race.

It's an annual event so if anyone out there feel the attraction, there’s a whole year to train and plan it for next year! The website of the organization is : http://www.garminbarcelonatriathlon.com/

Avinguda Diagonal - the bikes going up on one side and down on the other
So many bikes and in such high speed I got dizzy ... hehe

Last part, running up to Arc de Triomf to turn and go back to the beach
